ANGER MANAGEMENT

Anger is an emotion that all human beings experience – each and every day!  To manage anger is to control this volatile and intense feeling before it controls us.  People may be quick to experience anger rather than the more vulnerable feelings of disappointment, hurt, fear, jealousy, betrayal, and abandonment that are "underneath" the anger.

Anger stimulates the most primitive parts of our brain – like animal species – and triggers the “fight or flight” mechanism. Adrenalin is coursing through us and we are primed to hit or run!  Rather than be limited to these more primitive passive or aggressive approaches, managing anger is about being assertive with our feelings and needs.

The key to anger management is to engage our highly developed frontal cortex – the thinking part of the brain and learn the essential anger management toolsWe are quite capable of using logical thought and self-awareness to de-escalate the fight-or-flight response and gain mastery over angry feelings.  When we learn to manage our emotionality, then we can actually use anger as a vehicle to accomplish meaningful life goals!
