DR. MICHAEL'S FEELINGS ABOUT HIS WORK

I believe that being a psychotherapist is both an honor and privilege that must be nurtured and cherished.  Patients, couples, and group members show tremendous courage in revealing their personal struggles, shameful feelings, heaviest burdens, darkest secrets, and wishful longings to me.  They do so with hopes of achieving clarity, healing, fulfillment, and contentment.

What an awesome and meaningful responsibility.  I take on these challenges with humility, seriousness, sensitivity, and enthusiasm.  Being a therapist is emotional, intellectual, creative, and always fascinating.  I must be open-minded and available to learn from my patients.  I believe that with a connection built on honesty and trust, we can work together to overcome pain and achieve the goals of the patient.

My work as a therapist requires my continued growth both as a professional and as a person.  I become a better human being because I am challenged to reach deep inside myself to help others.

Many years ago, I made the conscious decision to work toward being a mature, responsible, compassionate, and playful human being.  Knowing there would always be ups and downs, joys and pains, and gains and losses, I take active steps to be fully present in my life.  I know that opportunities for joy, laughter, love, and a meaningful life are present all around us!
